I can’t believe how long it’s been since I’ve written on here! So much has changed since the last time and I guess it’s time to give you a little update! I guess I left you off with the bathtub installation… but I’m hoping to get back to that post soon. For now, I’ll give you a life update!
The blog kind of went to the wayside when I got pregnant and was super sick basically the entire time. Like nauseous sick EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. for months. And ankles like the size of tree trunks for the last few months🤢. But then, the best thing in my life arrived 6 weeks early and it was all worth it.
But let me back up. Bryan and I had been going to a birth center and I was planning on giving birth there, but when we went in for a routine appointment at 34 weeks, they noticed my blood pressure was super high and they sent me over to the hospital. From there, they determined that I had Preeclampsia. I thought that they’d just put my on some blood pressure medicine or something and send me home… but instead they told me that they were going to need to get this baby out in 48 hours. Apparently not a lot is known about Preeclampsia and what causes it in people like me. Needless to say, Bryan and I were both in complete shock and nowhere near ready. I’ll spare you all of the details, but basically within a day and a half, we had our little baby girl, Adeline, with us… but not really.
She was with me for the first few minutes and then wisked away up to the NICU since she was 6 weeks early and only 4 pounds 10 oz. We spent the next week driving to the hospital hoping that we could take her home with us and being disappointed each time they said… maybe another day or so. By the way… the staff at Bryn Mawr hospital are AMAZING and even though I cried every time I left Adeline, they made me feel comfortable leaving her in their care.
Finally at the end of the week (Which was a whole MONTH early! Before she was born they said a 34 week baby often doesn’t go home until their due date!) we were able to take our little girl home.
What Really Matters
Since then, it’s been a complete whirlwind. I mean, when we found out she’d be coming so soon, we didn’t even have a car seat! While I was in the hospital bed, Bryan was on Amazon buying up all the baby stuff we didn’t have yet! It was quite the scene.
Anyway, now over 12 weeks later, I’m back to work and Adeline is doing well! She’s growing like crazy and smiling and cooing at us every chance she gets! It’s funny how my perspective of things has really changed since she’s gotten here. I’m realizing what things REALLY matter and what things I can let go. Especially since I work 5 days a week, I’m realizing how precious time is. I love teaching and that’s not something I want to give up, but I also love spending my time with Adeline more than anything. So, I feel like I’m learning to manage my time much differently and more efficiently than before!
For now, I’m going to use this blog as a place to document projects we’ve done and other things that relate to the home. I’m probably not going to update every week, but when something comes to mind or we complete a project, I’ll let you know about it so that maybe you can get some use out of what we learned!
Anyway, that’s all for now! Hope to see you back here soon for a bathroom update!
